Thermopads Electric Underfloor Heating Foil Mat Kits

The Thermopads underwood foil heating mat system is universally accepted as safe and easy to install, offering comfortable warmth to a wooden floor without causing warping and cracking due to overheating.

The aluminium foil mat is ultra-thin to provide a low profile in the floor. It is primarily for use under laminates and engineered wood floating floors.

Floors must be fitted floating and must not be glued or nailed down. Tongue and groove wooden floors that are not click together must be glued along the joints. No metal fixings are permitted. Most wood flooring manufacturers have approved flooring products suitable for underfloor heating systems. Always check with the manufacturer.

Easy Installation

The foil mats carry the heating elements uniformly spaced and sandwiched between layers of reinforced aluminium to give evenly distributed heat.

The foil mat is 500mm wide. Installations are completed in a short time due to the ease of rolling out the matting side by side. The mat can be cut and turned with ease to run in strips side by side.

Thermopad Electric Underfloor Heating kits contain everything you need to install them – all packed and supplied in one box complete with full colour instructions.

Please choose an electric underfloor heating mat that will cover 90% of your floor area. It is best to order slightly less than you need than have too much as the cables CAN NOT be cut or shortened.

  • Compliant with all new 17th Edition IEE Regulations and Certified as per IEC / EN 60335

What max. thickness of floor can be installed on top ?

18mm is the maximum recommended thickness to obtain the most from the system.

Is the underwood heating system suitable for wet areas ?

The Thermopads foil under wood heating system is suitable for wet areas and is fully 17th Edition compliant.

Can furniture be placed on the finished wooden floor ?

Most free standing furniture is fine but we do not recommend installing the heating under any fixed units or fitted wardrobes etc.

Avoid placing bean bags or thick rugs on the floor as these can cause heat blockage and some localised hot spots on the floor.

What total thickness will the system raise my floor ?

The total thickness will be 8mm plus the thickness of your wooden floor.

Thermopads foil systems are installed directly under laminate or engineered wooden floors, on top of the underlay. The underlay must be applied to the floor before the underfloor heating. The underlay (floor insulation) shall be a minimum 6mm layer of cross linked closed cell polyethylene, designed specifically for underfloor heating.

This type of material has excellent fire retardant properties, compression strength, thermal conductivity and a working temperature range of -60 to +90oC

Styrofoam XPS insulation boards can also be used.

Cross linked closed cell polyethylene board will provide the following three benefits:

  • Insulation / thermal barrier
  • Act as underlay for the wooden floor
  • Provide cushioning properties with excellent sound proof effect

The foil heating mat is less than 2mm thick.

Styrofoam XPS board is still suitable but has not got the same cushioning properties of cellular foam.

Note: No other layers are required such as vapour barriers, screeds or adhesives.
